Employers’ Hour: without foreign workers, some businesses would not exist

Although recruiting from abroad is more complicated, time-consuming and expensive than recruiting from Estonia, employers have to do it for different reasons.
Risto Mäeots, head of Magnetic MRO, an aircraft maintenance service, explains in a recent ‘Employers’ Hour’ programme that his company would not exist without foreign workers. The service has never been offered in Estonia before and has therefore had to be built from scratch. Foreign workers are one of two ways to alleviate the skills shortage. In addition, the state is making labour law more flexible, which will also help to attract new people into the labour market.
Why the Estonian economy can’t manage without foreign workers, how foreign workers can help raise wages in Estonia and what misconceptions are circulating about recruiting from abroad and flexible working are discussed in the programme by Erkki Keldo, Estonian Minister of Economy and Industry, and Ain Käpp, head of the Palace of Hotels and Radisson and head of the Estonian Employers’ Confederation’s labour market working group. The programme is moderated by Rivo Sarapik, Head of Communications at the Confederation of Finnish Employers.
